02/02/2023

I would like to start this blog by sharing with you the different aspects that you need to be aware of when importing and exporting in North America. Please click on the link to see full post.

I like to call them the pillars of importing & exporting

During the next couple of posts we will looking at some of the requirements and hurdles you will face when it comes to the first of those pillars : Shipping.

Shipping goods across international borders can be complicated and time-consuming, and there can be significant delays and disruptions due to factors such as weather, transportation strikes, and border control issues. Among the challenges associated with international shipping, one aspect that is often over looked is your documentation.

Obtaining the correct and complete documentation for international shipping can be complex, below are a few examples of what possible challenges lie ahead when trying to gather your paperwork for your first inbound or outbound shipment.

  1. Inconsistent requirements: Different countries have different documentation requirements for imports and exports, which can make it difficult for businesses to navigate and comply with the necessary regulations.

  2. Regulations and compliance: Keeping up with the constantly evolving regulations for international shipping can be a challenge, particularly for businesses that are new to exporting.

  3. Errors and discrepancies: Incorrect or incomplete documentation can lead to costly errors, delays, and potential fines or penalties.

  4. Digitalization: The move towards digitalization of shipping documentation can be challenging for some businesses, particularly those that are less technologically advanced.

  5. Cost: The cost of obtaining the necessary documentation for international shipping can be significant, particularly when dealing with multiple shipments or countries.

  6. Time-consuming: The process of obtaining the correct and complete documentation for international shipping can be time-consuming, taking up valuable resources and slowing down the shipping process.

As you can note you need to pay attention to every detail and as a consultant it is our job to make sure that you have the right tools in hand to make your shipments a success.
